Sacred Atlas API and dataset
Reading Sacred Atlas is free, and always will be. This page is for machines: companies that want our data in bulk, for example to train AI models.
Why there is a price
The scriptures are public domain. What we built around them is our own work. We compared the traditions passage by passage, linked verses across books, and wrote the parallels, themes, figures, places, glossary and timeline. People, search engines and AI answer engines that cite and link to us read all of it free. Crawlers that collect pages to train AI models get HTTP 402 Payment Required. They can buy the same material here, cleaner and in bulk, for a few tenths of a cent per request.
What is included
- Compilation: 174 cross-tradition parallels, 126 themes, 54 figures, 63 places, 140 glossary terms and 66 timeline entries.
- Cross-references: about 248,000 verse-level links between traditions. You get the structure only.
- Public-domain texts: King James Version, World English Bible (incomplete), Reina-Valera 1909, Louis Segond 1910, Lutherbibel 1912, Van Dyck 1865, and the public-domain English translations of the Tao Te Ching, Analects, Dhammapada, Rig Veda, 1 Enoch, Thomas, Gilgamesh, Hammurabi, Mahabharata, Book of Mormon and Avesta selections.
- Commentary: Matthew Henry, Augustine, Chrysostom and Origen. All are public domain.
Not included: copyrighted translations. Every Qur'an translation is left out. Where the compilation quotes the Qur'an, the quote is replaced by its reference. Translations whose licence we could not confirm are also left out.
